“I can't remember when I wasn't singing...”
This is what John Neudorf will answer if you ask how long he's been singing. The answer is not surprising once you hear John signing - the range and depth of emotion is the result of a lifetime of crafting his art. As it is with most musicians, music has been a part of John's life for as long as he can remember. Now that he's a singer who is well respected in the jazz community it is easy for him to look back and see the progression of his singing from its origins and say 'yeah - i've always been a singer', but there are lots of closet singers out there who never made it out of the shower. To stand in front of a crowd of people and put all your depth of feeling out there for all to see is no easy task for most of us, but once John got the feeling and made it past the first few gigs he left all the doubt behind.
