John's first CD brings a grin to my face. He has emerged as one of the most promising young male jazz singers in the business. What strikes me about the CD is the joy in the enjoyment of the rythm of all participating. You'll dig it, too. Youthful and full of energy. "Tramp" and "Creepin" both have a more modern approach. The ease with which he scats in the first piece and further in "Softly" and "Joyspring" is exactly that. John, maybe you didn't mean to, but you sure made your teacher happy.

Mark Murphy.
